Mindfulness for children

When we are mindful, we pay full attention to something, we slow down, and we become focused. We are in a relaxed state and are able to process things better and engage with family activities, whether that’s managing our emotions or working towards completing a goal or task; this is one of the best things to do, especially for kids.

Mindfulness for children develops the practice of bringing a gentle and accepting attitude to the present moment, and creating a bonding activity, helps them connect with their thoughts and feelings, improving their mental health and wellbeing.

Through learning mindfulness, children develop self awareness and thus are able to use various tools and techniques to practice mindfulness through breathing, body scans, music and movement, imaginative meditations, and expressive art. 

Often children respond with frustration or sadness when told that their pain, however trivial it seems to us, is “not a big deal”. Children understand that they are allowed to express their feelings without judgment as we validate those emotions and create things that kids love.

Mindfulness workshops have demonstrated various social, cognitive, and emotional benefits for young and adolescent children, such as improvements in executive function, behavior, metacognition, and focus; Indoor physical activities for kids, social skills interacting,  communicating with others, and building self-esteem through facilitating the ability to manage stress and anxiety.

During the next 5 weeks woo-hoo! Dubai will introduce an exclusive Mindfulness with Chloe workshop series, during which we will explore a variety of mindfulness tools that children can apply at home and easy indoor games for kids in school to become the best version of themselves.

Chloé Boughton is a self-taught artist, born in the United Kingdom and currently based in Dubai. Her process is to create art that tells a story, to give a voice to the voiceless, and show the spirit of their innocence.
